Washington, DC | www.adc.org | November 22, 2024 – This week, 19 Senators – nearly 40% of Senate Democrats – voted to support the Joint Resolutions of Disapproval blocking weapons to Israel. While it is important to hold members of Congress accountable when they make the wrong decision, it is equally as important to thank them when they make the right one.
As Israel’s genocide continues to decimate Gaza, and its war of aggression in Lebanon continues unabated, it is encouraging to see elected officials stand against continued support of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Contravening U.S. law to provide weapons to Israel is not acceptable, and these Senators sent a powerful message that there are leaders who will not accept unreasonable and unconditional support for Israel.
The Senators supporting the JRD on tank cartridges sales were Dick Durbin (D-IL), Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Angus King (I-ME), Ben Ray Lujan (D-NM), Ed Markey (D-MA), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Tina Smith (D-MN), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Peter Welch (D-VT). Sen. George Helmy (D-NJ) joined the group to vote against shipments of military equipment and mortar rounds.
It is important to make sure that their offices know how much their courageous vote means, especially as they are receiving hate for standing up for Palestinians, so send them a message today.
