Dr. Abu Safiya, a Palestinian pediatrician and director of Gaza’s Kamal Adwan Hospital, was kidnapped by Israel in December 2024 without charge or trial.
For the past year and a half, Dr. Abu Safiya has endured daily beatings, psychological torment, and abuse so severe that he is barely recognizable due to extensive torture marks across his body. His family says he is now between life and death, and time is running out. Israeli media and Zionist outlets are now feeding the public a manufactured story about who Dr. Abu Safiya is. They are trying to turn a pediatrician, hospital director, and public medical worker into a combatant by distorting his background and misrepresenting a government medical title as evidence of armed activity.
The facts do not support that lie. Dr. Abu Safiya worked in Gaza’s public health system. Kamal Adwan Hospital is a children’s hospital. The title being weaponized against him comes from his work in Gaza’s public medical services system, not from Hamas. His colleagues describe him as a doctor who refused to abandon his patients, even as Israel repeatedly violated international law and decimated Gaza’s healthcare system.
We demand the immediate release of Dr. Abu Safiya, and respect for U.S. and international laws.
U.S. law bars American support to foreign military, police, prison, or security forces credibly accused of torture and other grave human rights abuses. Israel should not be the exception.
Israel’s kidnapping and torture of Dr. Abu Safiya should trigger immediate Leahy enforcement. Instead, the United States continues to send Israel billions in military aid while Palestinian medical workers and hospitals are attacked with impunity.
