ADC Celebrates Historic Victories for Arab Americans in the 2026 Midterm Elections

Washington, D.C. | The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) celebrates the historic victories of Abdul El-Sayed, Dr. Adam Hamawy, and all Arab American candidates across the country. Last night’s elections delivered a powerful message: the will of the people is stronger than the political establishment, billionaire donors, and campaigns built on fear and division.

In Michigan, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed made history as the first Muslim elected to the United States Senate. Despite more than $130 million in outside spending against his candidacy, relentless racist and Islamophobic attacks, intentional misrepresentations of his positions, and opposition from powerful interests within both political parties, the campaign prevailed. His victory exposed the limits of establishment money when confronted with the will of the people.

In New Jersey, Dr. Adam Hamawy, a U.S. Army veteran and surgeon who treated Palestinians in Gaza, won his race for Congress. Dr. Hamawy witnessed the horrors of Israel’s genocide in Gaza firsthand. Now, he will take his place in the very Congress that funded and enabled those atrocities, bringing the testimony of what he witnessed directly to the lawmakers responsible for sustaining U.S. support for Israel’s genocide.

Last night’s midterm results were a resounding rejection of Israel-first politicians who prioritize a foreign government’s interests over those of their constituents, of racist and Islamophobic fearmongering, and of billionaire donors attempting to buy political power and dictate the future of American democracy.

We are proud of every Arab American and every principled candidate who had the courage to stand against genocide and the trampling of the U.S. Constitution. The American people are behind you. May these elections mark the beginning of a new chapter in American politics: one that ends our destructive, unconditional support for Israel, restores our commitment to constitutional rights and democratic values, and puts the needs of the American people first.

Our nation’s greatest strength has always been its people, its diversity, and its promise of equal opportunity. It is time for our government to reflect those values again.
