ADC-Michigan’s 12th Annual Judges’ Night Reception a Celebrated Success!

Dearborn, MI | www.adcmich.org | November 4, 2014 – The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Michigan Office (ADC-Michigan) hosted its 12th Annual Judges’ Night Reception and “Guardians of Justice” Awards Ceremony on October 30, 2014 in Dearborn.Over 400 distinguished guests attended the invitation-only event. Attendees included more than 75 circuit court, federal, and state supreme court judges. Also present were law school deans, academics, representatives for local Senators and Congresspersons, as well as numerous mayors from across Michigan, elected officials, chiefs of police, attorneys, and community leaders. 

In his address, keynote speaker Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan emphasized the need for local communities to support the work of ADC-Michigan in its quest to promote civil liberties and protect the rights of Arab-Americans. Supreme Court Justice Honorable Bridget Mary McCormack , U.S. District Court  Judge Honorable Patrick Duggan, U.S. District Court Judge Honorable James G. Carr , and Attorney Peter Hammer, Director of the Damon Keith Center for Civil Rights, were honored with “Guardian of Justice” Awards for their distinguished public service and commitment to civil rights. The awardees gave inspirational, heartfelt acceptance speeches and expressed their gratitude for the recognition.


ADC-Michigan Director Attorney Fatina Abdrabboh said, “This year’s Judges’ Night was a resounding success because of our community’s commitment to support and invest in the work that the ADC-Michigan does.  This occasion is our opportunity as a community to give thanks to those Defenders of Justice who play a critical role in advancing the goals of the ADC-Michigan in ensuring justice for all Americans.”

The ADC-Michigan is committed to strengthening the voice of Arab-Americans through advocacy and the 3 E’s:  Engagement, Education, and Empowerment.  The Guardians of Justice Judges Night banquet is part of this drive to strengthen the voice of Arab-Americans. Over the past eleven years, Judges’ Night has attracted prestigious members of the U.S. judiciary and ADC has honored a number of respected Judges in Michigan including the Hon. Marilyn Kelly, Chief Justice, Michigan Supreme Court and the Hon. George Caram Steeh, U.S. District Court.

The ADC-Michigan extends its sincerest appreciation to its staff, volunteers, and supporters for making this year’s Judges’ Night event an exceptional success!
