Palestinian Elected as President of the Prestigious IRCT

On November 6, The International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT) elected Palestinian psychologist, Dr. Abdel Hamid Afana as the President of the Executive Council. Dr. Afana is the Director of the Education and Research Department of Gaza Community Mental Health Program in Gaza. The election took place during the organization‘s annual Executive Council meeting, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
IRCT is an independent, international health professional organization that promotes and supports the rehabilitation of torture victims and works for the prevention of torture worldwide. Based in Denmark, the IRCT works in collaboration with a global network of nearly 200 rehabilitation centers and programs worldwide. The IRCT also works in partnership with governments, human rights organizations, health professional organizations and intergovernmental organizations.
