Washington, D.C. | The decision of President Trump to bomb Iran, dragging the United States into an unjustifiable conflict, directly contradicts his “America First” pledge to end foreign wars and prioritize American interests. Joining Israel’s war compromises America’s core values, damages our global reputation, and betrays President Trump’s repeated promise to be a “peace president” dedicated to ending regime-change wars.
“Despite claims that the bombings were limited, the impacts on the people of Iran, regional stability, and American interests will be severe,” said ADC National Executive Director, Abed Ayoub. “These unpopular wars lead to needless loss of life, squander trillions of taxpayer dollars, and deepen U.S. debt—all to support the ambitions of a rogue state led by an internationally-wanted war criminal.”
For over 30 years, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pressed Washington to attack Iran, repeatedly claiming Tehran is “months away” from a nuclear bomb. These manufactured crises have cost at least four million lives and over $5 trillion taxpayer dollars. None of these wars had the informed consent of the American people. Allowing Israel to steer U.S. policy again would abandon voters’ will and Trump’s promise of peace.
Escalation against Iran carries an even more catastrophic risk. Analysts warn that a collapse in Iranian governance could force approximately 23 million Iranians—one quarter of Iran’s population—across borders, creating the largest refugee crisis since World War II, overwhelming neighboring states, Europe, and the United States.
“What is the strategy after the bombing ends? Is there a clear plan for the aftermath? Why attack Iran when Israel itself maintains a secret nuclear program, refuses to join international nonproliferation agreements, and consistently destabilizes the region through assassinations, cyberattacks, and sabotage,” Ayoub added. “These hostile actions destroy trust and undermine diplomacy. Genuine peace negotiations cannot occur when a belligerent state repeatedly sabotages diplomatic efforts without consequence.”
The Constitution reserves the power to declare war to Congress alone. Rep. Ro Khanna and Rep. Thomas Massie have introduced a House War Powers Resolution to block unauthorized military action; Senator Tim Kaine has filed a parallel measure in the Senate; and Senator Bernie Sanders’ “No War Against Iran Act” would bar federal funding for an undeclared war. These efforts deserve immediate, bipartisan support.
For nearly 45 years, ADC has consistently opposed U.S. military interventions and the provision of military aid to foreign wars. We urge every American to contact Congress today and demand: No more wars—not in our name, and certainly not in the name of “America First.”
