Today marks the 110th anniversary of the Armenian genocide. On April 24, 1915, the Ottoman Empire began the genocide and, over three years, systematically massacred at least 1.5 million Armenians and forcibly displaced the Armenian people from their historic lands.
We remember the Armenian genocide and commemorate all who lost their lives and homes. ADC stands in solidarity with the Armenian people. By honoring the memory of those who perished in the Armenian Genocide and standing with all people facing persecution, we affirm our collective commitment to safeguard human rights and dignity for generations to come.
After these atrocities between 1915 and 1918, many Armenian survivors fled their homes and found safe haven throughout the Arab world, including in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Egypt. Over the past century, Armenians established thriving communities in Arab countries, where they forged new beginnings and built communities that enriched local society and exemplified the strength of cultural exchange. The presence of Armenian schools, churches, and civic organizations attests to the persistent vitality and identity of the Armenian people in Arab lands, underscoring a spirit of solidarity and mutual respect.
ADC stands shoulder-to-shoulder with our Armenian brothers and sisters, just as they have been standing with us against the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Our communities know too well the price of systemic dispossession and oppression, and together we will continue to defend those facing injustice and persecution.
