A Call to Public Service:  ADC-Michigan Introduces the ADC Pro-Bono Legal Panel!

As the premier civil rights organization serving and advocating on behalf of Americans of Arab descent, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) Michigan office provides hundreds of clients with free civil rights resources each year.  In light of the fact that the demand for the ADC’s services far outstrips its current capacities, the ADC-Michigan recently created the ADC-Michigan Pro Bono Legal Panel.  The purpose of the panel will be to mentor and train local attorneys while also leveraging their experience, knowledge, and resources to assist and empower more Arab-Americans in the area.

ADC Michigan Director, Fatina Abdrabboh summed up the goals of the Pro Bono Legal Panel in the following terms:  “It is the ADC Michigan’s hope that programs like this will embolden local Arab-American and non Arab-American lawyers to utilize their skills and talents to contribute to the public good”.  Programs emphasizing public service are regularly undertaken by ADC Michigan as part of our commitment to empowering the local community.

Attorneys interested in being added to ADC-Michigan’s Pro Bono legal Panel are encouraged to email adcmich@adc.org.

ADC Michigan Introduces “Celebrate Diversity Instagram Contest”

In an effort to acknowledge the vibrant and diverse heritage of Arab-Americans,  the ADC-Michigan recently launched the “Celebrate Diversity Instagram Contest”.  By following a few simple steps on Instagram, participants can win an iPad, a 42 inch LED television, Dre Beats headphones, tickets to the Detroit Redwings/Tigers games, and over $1,000 in gift certificates from leading retailers.  A new winner will be announced each month beginning in April until December 2014.  The ADC-Michigan chose Instagram as the platform for this contest as part of its focus on engaging Arab-American youth and nurturing them to become the next generation of community leaders.  In addition to providing a platform for Arab-Americans to celebrate their identities, this contest is meant to also encourage members of other ethnic groups to embrace diversity and cultural pluralism. We encourage all Arab-Americans to celebrate their identities by participating in this contest.  For more information on how to enroll in the contest, please download our flyer at:

ADC-Michigan Director emphasizes youth empowerment in various meetings across Michigan

Attorney Fatina Abdrabboh, the Director of The ADC Michigan Office, recently participated in a series of community outreach initiatives to promote ADC-Michigan’s vision of strengthening the voice of Arab‑Americans through advocacy and the 3 E’s: Engagement, Education, and Empowerment. These state-wide meetings where held in Hamtramck, Dearborn, Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Troy, and Shelby township.  During these various events, Attorney Abdrabboh highlighted ADC-Michigan’s commitment to youth empowerment, and public service-oriented programs as effective methods of achieving transformational changes for current and future generations of Arab-Americans.

Ms. Abdrabboh commented, “Emphasizing inclusion is key to building lasting and powerful networks of dedicated youth capable of expanding the concept of civil rights to the local, regional, and national arena”.  She continued, “The ADC-Michigan’s goal is that all Arab-American youth be given the tools necessary to become the torchbearers of an America where ALL its citizens are treated equally regardless of their ethnicity, religious background, or gender”.

ADC-Michigan Director Participates in National Women’s Empowerment Event

ADC-Michigan Director Attorney Fatina Abdrabboh recently traveled to Washington, DC to participate in a National Women’s Empowerment Program organized by the ADC national office.  The program was designed to provide women in leadership around the country with opportunities to advance their networks, enhance their leadership skills, and increase their scope of influence on both personal and professional levels. Abdrabboh described the event as “an incredibly powerful setting for women.”  Ms. Abdrabboh also added that the ADC’s Women’s Empowerment Event empowered participants by “offering mentorship and identifying crucial gaps in advancing women’s opportunities” which she views as essential for strengthening the rights of women and promoting gender equality.   For pictures of the event, please visit the following link:
