ADC Chicago to host discussion on Arab American Issues

Washington, DC–On September 24, The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee-Greater Chicago Chapter will be hosting distinguished guests in a discussion on issues concerning the Arab American community. The program will include the following speakers:
Keynote address: Mr. James Bamford
Best-selling author of “A Pretext for War: 9/11, Iraq, and the Abuse of America’s Intelligence Agencies,” “The Puzzle Palace: Inside America’s Most Secret Intelligence Organization,” and “Body of Secrets: Anatomy of the Ultra-Secret National Security Agency.” Bamford is a former Washington Investigative Producer for ABC‘s World News Tonight with Peter Jennings, a Visiting Professor at the University of California at Berkeley, an Attorney, and a U.S. Navy Veteran. His articles have appeared in dozens of publications, including cover stories for the New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post Magazine, and the Los Angeles Times Magazine. He was also actively involved in bringing public attention to the murder of ADC Western Regional Director Alexander Michel Odeh, who was killed when a bomb exploded at an ADC Office in Santa Ana, California. He is based in Washington, D.C.
Chairman‘s address: Hon. James Abourezk
Abourezk is ADC founder, and current ADC National Chairman. He became the first Arab American to serve in the Senate when he was elected as a Democrat and served from January 3, 1973, to January 3, 1979. Previously he was elected as a Democrat to the Ninety-second Congress (January 3, 1971-January 3). He served as chairman of the Select Committee on Indian Affairs (Ninety-fifth Congress) and chairman of the American Indian Policy Review Commission 1976. In 1989 he penned “Advise and Dissent: Memoirs of South Dakota and the U.S. Senate.”
Guest Speaker: Dr. Clovis Maksoud
Professor of International Relations and Director of the Center for the Global South at the American University in Washington, D.C., Former Chief Representative of the League of Arab States in India, Former Chief Representative of the League of Arab States to the United States and the United Nations, Author of “The Meaning of Non-Alignment”, “The Crisis of the Arab Left”, “Reflections on Afro-Asianism”, and “The Arab Image”.
