One Year of Genocide

Washington, DC | www.adc.org | October 7, 2024 – For an entire year the whole world has borne witness to what Palestinians have been enduring for decades—no one can claim any longer that they didn’t know. 367 days of genocide have been live-streamed on our smartphones and devices, putting on full display Western hypocrisy. Day after day we watched a relentless assault on childhood, indiscriminate bombardment with thousands of tons of explosives, a calculated campaign of starvation, millions of Palestinians displaced and maimed, and the destruction of Gaza’s health infrastructure—all at an unprecedented scale.

We also witnessed a global movement collectively rise together and demand an end to the genocide and for a Free Palestine. The Palestinians in Gaza, through their faith and perseverance, awakened the consciousness of global citizens of all ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds.

As ADC publicly stated last year, the unprecedented and ongoing resistance by Palestinians from Gaza did not happen in a vacuum. The objective of Israel’s genocide became abundantly clear early on – further occupation and annexation of Palestine and neighboring Arab land. This was never about “self-defense” – it is an offensive terror campaign on Arab populations in the Levant.

Despite unprecedented mass mobilizations, there has been no shift in US foreign policy in the region. Israel continues to receive tens of billions of dollars in military aid and weapons as calls for a ceasefire and arms embargo continue to be ignored. Not only has Israel’s impunity enabled it to intensify its attacks all over Palestine, but now the assault has expanded rapidly to Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, and the region. The US government’s active involvement in the genocide goes beyond complicity—the US is providing the means for its execution everywhere.

We will not give up. We don’t just need our elected representatives to demand a ceasefire, we need them to immediately stop all weapons sales and transfers to Israel, and commit to the end of its occupation in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria.

Millions will continue marching, students will continue rising, and a movement for justice and liberation will continue to grow. No one can defeat a just cause and a steadfast and proud people. The genocide will stop, Palestine will be liberated, and we shall return. Palestine was, is, and always will remain alive.
