The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents, in cooperation
with the Middle East Institute and the assistance of the Embassy of Syria, Hewar(“Dialogue”), a Syrian quintet who will perform a concert called “Common Grounds” in a night of Arabic music influenced by classical, jazz and Eastern
European traditions. Hewar’s members are: Issam Rafea (‘oud) and Dima Orsho (soprano) from Damascus; Kinan Azmeh (clarinet) of the Juilliard School in New York; and Kinan Abu-Afash (cello) and Omar Al-Musfi (percussion) from Chicago.
The concert takes place on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage starting at
