SENATOR EDWARDS SAYS COBLE WAS WRONG AND OUGHT TO APOLOGIZE
On February 5, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) sent a letter to Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC) asking that he publicly explain his remarks in which he endorsed the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II and implied that Arab-Americans represent a threat to our national security. Instead of a public explanation and apology to the remarks he made, Congressman Coble insisted that his statements were “historical fact.”
Today February 19, the National Day of Rememberance for the signing of Executive Order 9066, ADC joined the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) and 21 other civil rights and community organizations in a letter (see below) asking Congressman Coble for a meeting and providing him with a petition of 5000 signatures asking for him to step down from his position as Chair of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security.
