Hani’s brother, a journalist, was assassinated by government agents in his home country in retaliation for exposing the truth. Returning home would have put Hani’s life, and the lives of his family members at great risk. With little resources and few options, Hani came to ADC for help. Shortly after his meeting with ADC, an asylum application was submitted on the family’s behalf. Within months, the applications was approved, allowing Hani and his family to escape danger and stay in the United States.
In the 35 years since our founding, ADC has fought to defend the rights of Arab Americans, to empower our community and to help people like Hani, who are in desperate need of protection.
In the coming week, we have a day to give thanks and two days to get good deals. Today, Tuesday, December 1, 2015 we also have #GivingTuesday, a global celebration promoting a tradition of generosity during this season of thankfulness. Now in its 4th year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The online event kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
At ADC we are grateful for the support of our members and friends, without whom our work would be impossible.
We are in need of your urgent financial support. With your help, we can continue to be a staunch and influential advocate for Arab Americans, including people like Hani, for years to come. After Thanksgiving dinner is over and you’ve had your fill of shopping, consider donating as part of #GivingTuesday.
