Dr. Edward Shadid’s Remarks on Anthony Shadid at ADC Convention

Anthony Shadid, the Middle East-based correspondent for the New York Times, was honored at the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee’s 2012 convention at the evening gala Saturday, June 23rd, 2012. Shadid’s close family, including his wife and daughter, was on-hand to receive a painting created by Helen Zughaib in Shadid’s honor.
Shadid was a former intern at ADC and role model for Arab Americans. His cousin Dr. Edward Shadid made remarks about Shadid’s legacy, but also provided new details into his untimely death. He called for news organizations to put greater emphasis on journalists’ safety. Notably, he placed greater blame on the Times, and the decision to send Shadid, and he challenged its account of Shadid’s last days.
