The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is taking seriously the professed policy of requiring a Muslim registry. ADC adamantly opposes any mandated registration predicated in racial, religious, and/or ethnic profiling. Foremost, the National Security Exit-Entry Registration System (NSEERS) implemented in 2002 does not mean that a Muslim registry is legal.
In late 2002, the Department of Justice‘s Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) launched the NSEERS program. Today the program is housed under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The program required male visitors in the United States, from 25 Arab and Muslim countries along with North Korea, to be fingerprinted, photographed, and questioned by immigration officers.
In November of this year, ADC submitted a letter co-signed by nearly 200 organizations to President Barack Obama, calling on his administration to rescind the regulatory framework behind NSEERS.
ADC needs your help in the fight to protect human rights and stand against racial, religious, and ethnic profiling. It is time to close the book on NSEERS and end the program. You can take action to help bring this program to an end!
Take Action and Call the White House at 202-456-1111 or email the White House here
Tell the White House: “NSEERS was a failed program that was based on ethnic and religious profiling. I ask the Administration to immediately take steps to remove the regulatory structure of NSEERS and stop any future use of the program.”
