NYC Public School Discriminates Against Jewish Father Who Expressed Concerns for Palestinians Suffering in Gaza
ADC advocated for the rights of a Jewish father who established a scholarship fund in honor of his slain daughter, a former NYC Public School teacher. During his speech at the Academy of American Studies graduation, he expressed concern for Palestinians and Israelis suffering as a result of senseless violence – just as his daughter’s life had been taken by senseless violence. The following day, the school announced that it would not tolerate hate and this grieving father would not be permitted to make speeches at the school again. ADC asked Principal Shermila Bharat and the district to issue an apology to this father, to permit him to continue speaking at graduations as he had previously, and to stop censoring support for Palestinians. NYC Public Schools and the Academy of American Studies failed to respond.
