ADC Statement on the Trump Administration’s Proposed Military Spending Reductions

Washington, D.C. | The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) welcomes President Trump’s recent statements and directives to reduce military spending and implement much-needed reforms at the Department of Defense. The United States allocates nearly $1 trillion annually to defense—about 3.4% of GDP—far surpassing Europe’s combined 1.6% (approximately $300 billion). The ADC has long pressed for a thorough reassessment of defense priorities, and proposals to cut spending by up to half, along with Secretary Hegseth’s request for 8% annual reductions across the Department of Defense, merit serious discussion and consideration.

The ADC has consistently called for an end to foreign military aid and funding, which have historically fueled instability and humanitarian crises. Rather than channeling taxpayer dollars into foreign wars that cause widespread suffering, we believe America must address urgent needs at home. As the world’s wealthiest nation, the United States should ensure that Americans have the resources to thrive. Investing in domestic infrastructure, healthcare, and education—not endless conflicts abroad—leads to a stronger, more secure future for everyone.

The ADC remains committed to collaborating with government officials, defense industry stakeholders, and international partners to ensure that defense spending cuts advance the interests of the American people while preserving global peace and security.
