Washington, D.C. | www.adc.org | November 6, 2024 – Last night’s historic election, marked by unprecedented voter turnout, reflects the American people’s deep commitment to exercising their democratic rights and holding elected officials accountable. At ADC we have long cautioned about rising discontent within the electorate, particularly concerning U.S. foreign policy decisions that have resulted in the genocide in Gaza, occupation of Palestine, and the war on Lebanon.
President Donald Trump’s return to office signals a clear demand for leadership that acknowledges the will of the people. This critical juncture demands a renewed commitment to peace and justice in the Arab world. ADC calls on the next Trump administration to leverage U.S. influence and resources to promote policies centered on protecting civilians and upholding civil and human rights at home and abroad.
With Democrats losing Michigan and Republicans showing historic gains in Wayne County, the heart of the nation’s largest Arab American community, last night’s election results underscore the risks of supporting an ongoing genocide, and policies that exacerbate crises in the Middle East. ADC has warned of this outcome for over a year. For many voters, especially those affected by foreign policy decisions, this election was a referendum on the costs of prolonged conflicts abroad. The election results illustrate shifting dynamics among voters who are increasingly vocal about Biden’s atrocious foreign policy record.
We are aware of the challenges that are ahead of us. While ADC sees opportunities for engagement with the incoming administration on issues that impact us directly, we are prepared and ready to hold them accountable through other avenues, including legal actions. ADC has prepared and will be implementing operational strategies to better push back against policies that target our community.
We will continue to advocate for an end to the genocide, and an arms embargo. Domestically we will expand our efforts to protect the First Amendment rights of our community, including students on college campuses. Our legal department will be staffed with the attorneys and professionals needed to meet the anticipated demand of our services. Finally, we will be expanding our organizing and advocacy efforts to a local and state level.
As we prepare for the next four years please consider making an investment in ADC today so we can better serve the community. Click here to donate now.
