ADC is pleased to co-sponsor the Fifth Annual Arab-American Student Conference, which is scheduled to take place this weekend, January 17-20, 2003, at the George Washington University. The choice to be engaged and active at all levels of American society, was never more apparent than at ADC‘s 19th National Convention this past June. Building on the momentum generated by the record number of students dedicated to empowering themselves, the Fifth Annual Arab-American Student Conference provides an avenue for the next generation of leadership to attend educational programs on all aspects of activism, meet elected officials, and network with participants from across the nation.
In a departure from previous years, the 2003 Student Conference is being jointly organized by the Network of Arab-American Alumni and Professionals (NAAP) and the Union of Arab Student Associations (UASA). The combined efforts of UASA and NAAP in producing this annual conference highlights the growing emphasis on unity and partnership in the community.
Workshops and panels will include discussions on campus activism, coalition building, media activism, Arab-American women‘s issues and much more. ADC President Ziad J. Asali will be discussing the role ADC plays across the nation, ADC Communications Director Hussein Ibish will be leading the media workshops, ADC Legal Advisor Carol Khawly will be examining legal issues, and ADC Media Officer Laila Al-Qatami will be exploring women‘s issues.
