Washington, D.C. | April 25, 2023 – We are honored to announce that Dean Reem A. Bahdi will be receiving the Hala Salam Maksoud Award at the upcoming ADC National Convention. Dean Bahdi is being recognized for her outstanding leadership, scholarship, and commitment to the Arab community. Dean Bahdi is the current Dean of Windsor Law School and is also the first Arab woman and the first Palestinian to be appointed as a Law School Dean in North America.
Dean Bahdi’s achievements and contributions to legal education have been widely recognized throughout her career. She has been a member of the faculty at Windsor Law since 2002. Dean Bahdi will be presented with the award at the Civil Rights Luncheon which will be held on Saturday June 17th, 2023. To register for the convention, click here.
Her leadership and commitment to advancing access to justice have been acknowledged by various prestigious organizations. Dean Bahdi received the Guthrie Medal in 2017, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the development of law and legal institutions in Ontario. She was also appointed a member of the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists in 2015 for her national research excellence.
In addition to her work at Windsor Law, Dean Bahdi is also the co-creator and co-Director of KARAMAH, The Project on Judicial Independence and Human Dignity, a multi-million dollar initiative that supports human dignity in Palestine through research, continuing judicial education, and directed civil society engagement.
We are honored to celebrate Dean Bahdi’s remarkable achievements and contributions to legal education and access to justice. Her appointment as the first Arab woman and the first Palestinian law dean in North America is a historic milestone, and we look forward to having her with us at the upcoming ADC National Convention.
