ADC welcomes Jinan Shbat to the team as the National Organizer. As a community activist for over 15 years, Jinan has worked with multiple communities on issues such as Palestinian human rights, intersectional activism, refugee rights, and the Arab/Muslim Ban. With these important topics, she has worked to train communities in responding effectively through civic engagement, protests, and bystander trainings.
Prior to joining ADC, Jinan worked for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS). At CAIR, Jinan acted as the National Events and Outreach Manager, and was the direct contact to the local DMV community to plan events such as Know Your Rights seminars, anti-Islamophobia/xenophobia workshops (particularly in the academic space), and bystander intervention trainings. At SAMS, Jinan worked with doctors to plan overseas medical missions, medical conferences, and national fundraisers.
On the work she hopes to undertake at ADC, Jinan states:
I look forward to working with the Arab-American community in what is a critical time and year for us all. Arab Americans have contributed so much to the history of this country, and I am excited to work closely with our communities nationwide to foster understanding, intersectional coalition building, and cultural representation.
At ADC, Jinan will be mobilizing the Arab-American community nationwide while helping to bridge intersectional issues between our communities and current economic, political, and environmental matters. She will also be working within the communities to address needs such as legal support and educational seminars on topics such as discrimination, the 2020 census, and community activism. ADC is excited to have Jinan with us, and we cannot wait to share her work with our followers!
We look forward to her collaborations with our partners at this promising time for Arab-American communities. Please feel free to contact her at [email protected].
