ADC Legal Advisor Joins Department of Justice; New Legal Advisor Joins ADC

Washington, DC | July 18, 2007 | www.adc.org | The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is delighted to announce that ADC Legal Advisor Lema Bashir, Esq. has accepted a position with the US Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Voting Section as a trial attorney. Bashir leaves ADC following a successful two-year tenure with the organization in which she led efforts in the areas of employment law and immigration and naturalization delays due to background checks. In addition to her work as Legal Advisor, Bashir was the coordinator of the ADC-Research Institute Anthony Shadid Internship Program; responsible for supervising all ADC interns. Before joining ADC, she was employed with a private law firm specializing in employment discrimination litigation. Bashir is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and Maryland and is fluent in Arabic.
Further, ADC welcomes Mr. Abed Ayoub, Esq. as a new Legal Advisor with the Legal Department in Washington. Ayoub, who is fluent in Arabic, joins the ADC Legal Department from Dearborn, Michigan. He is a longtime volunteer and activist with ADC. Ayoub is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. He is admitted to and licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Michigan. Ayoub joins ADC following experience in immigration law with the Law Offices of Nabih H. Ayad and Associates and Landis and Day, PLC. Ayoub was previously a law clerk with the Urban Law Clinic in Detroit. His ADC activism includes serving as Membership and Development Coordinator and an Advisory Board Member in Michigan. He most recently completed the FBI Citizens Academy course in Auburn Hills, Michigan before relocating to Washington, DC, to accept his new position.
