Save Umm Al-Khair! A Palestinian Village from Demolition
Take Action
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is urgently calling on all civil rights, human rights, faith-based, and community organizations (and every concerned individual) to demand the immediate halt to the demolition orders in Umm al-Khair.
After a bullet took Awdah Hathaleen’s life, the Israeli government now moves to erase his village. With the desert winter approaching, Israel has issued demolition orders designed to forcibly and permanently displace the people of Umm al-Khair from their homes.
This is part of a planned, deliberate and systematic effort to destroy Palestinian villages and illegally occupy their land. Replacing indigenous communities with illegal settlements.
If these orders are carried out, vulnerable families—that includes the elderly and children—will be in the streets as winter approaches. They will be homeless without any shelter and nowhere to go, on the very land their families have owned for generations.
On October 28th, Israeli military and government personnel delivered 13 demolition orders targeting the community’s heart: homes, a greenhouse, and the central community center and playground. This is the obliteration of a community’s past, present, and any hope for a future— funded by American taxes and enabled by American diplomatic silence.
Choosing silence is complicity.
We demand our representatives act immediately. In a letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu over 100 U.S. lawmakers have demanded he withdraw the demolition orders.
We call on our representatives to amplify their demands, by:
1. Publicly condemning the planned demolitions in Umm al-Khair.
2. Immediately joining the congressional letter led by Rep. Jamie Raskin.
3. Use all available diplomatic tools to prevent the destruction of this Palestinian village.
The Bedouin village of Umm al-Khair is a peaceful community that has been subjected to extremist settler violence and military crackdown.
Don’t wait! Contact your member of Congress now. Demand they speak out and act to save Umm al-Khair before it is too late.
