The Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) calls on all community members to write their representatives and urge them to support Rep. Mark Pocan’s amendment to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations bill.
The amendment seeks to block any DHS funding intended to carry out the March 6 Executive Order Travel Ban. The amendment makes clear that our government should not determine what family means. Under the amendment a bona fide relationship to family relative will include aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces, cousins, or grandparents.
Last week, when Judge Watson so commendably stood up for our community the Trump administration immediately announced that they will seek to appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court. If this should tell you anything, it is that our work is still far from done. Supporting Rep. Pocan’s amendment is a step closer to ensuring our communities receive the justice they deserve.
It is necessary you contact your representatives, as they have the power to see that this amendment passes.
