ADC Welcomes the Lifting of U.S. Sanctions on Syria; Calls for Equitable Aid and Protection of Religious Minorities
Washington, D.C. | The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) welcomes the recent decision by President Donald Trump to lift sanctions on Syria. This important step has the potential to alleviate the prolonged humanitarian crisis and pave the way for a more stable and prosperous future for the Syrian people.
We strongly urge that all assistance—humanitarian, developmental, and economic—be distributed equitably across Syria. Aid must be accessible to every Syrian community without discrimination. It is vital that these programs focus not only on immediate humanitarian relief, but also on fostering long-term opportunities that empower all Syrians to rebuild their lives.
ADC remains committed to the principle that human rights and civil liberties must be safeguarded throughout Syria’s path toward recovery. This commitment extends to ensuring the protection of religious and ethnic minorities, who have endured disproportionate hardship during the conflict. We call on the international community to prioritize the security and well-being of these vulnerable groups, and to uphold inclusive policies that respect pluralism, religious freedom, and social justice.
The ADC stands ready to work with policymakers, advocacy groups, and community leaders in the United States and abroad to support the Syrian people. We look forward to collaborative efforts to realize a just peace, sustainable development, and the protection of all Syrians’ rights.
