TPS for Somalia: Important Re-Registration Notice

Washington, DC | www.adc.org | August 28, 2018 | The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) successfully campaigned for the renewal of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalia. Please adhere to the following notice for TPS re-registration for Somali beneficiaries.

Current TPS beneficiaries must re-register between August 27 – October 26, 2018, to maintain their status through March 17, 2020. ADC encourages Somali TPS holders to apply as soon as possible.

All applicants must submit Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected and Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization.

To allow for processing time, all work permits for TPS re-registering applicants expiring September 17, 2018 are automatically renewed through March 16, 2019, to ensure there is no interruption in employment authorization.  To obtain a work permit valid to March 17, 2020 you must submit a Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization.

To be eligible for TPS, Somali national’s must have continuously resided in the U.S. since May 1, 2012, and has been physically present since September 18, 2012. Re-registration requires a fee. If an individual demonstrates an inability to pay the fee, you may apply for a fee waiver here

The Department of Homeland Security will reconsider Somalia’s TPS designation in January 2020.
