March 29, 2006 – Recording artist Zade Dirani knows ignorance can be lethal. Originally from Jordan, he was called a terrorist for reading an Arabic newspaper. Last November, he lost several friends to a deadly terrorist attack in Jordan. Zade is responding by taking matters into his own hands, literally.  With his piano and an international group of 40 musicians he hand picked from 18 countries, including Iran, Israel, Korea and the US, Zade is using music to dispel cultural ignorance and intolerance.  Dubbed “Jordan’s leading cultural ambassador” by the Washington Times, Zade will present “Roads to You: Celebration of One World,” a concert tour that will take his message of peace and cultural understanding to three major US cities starting in May, 2006. The tour will also include more than 100 workshops.
In the wake of 9/11 and the polarization of cultures, Zade began with much trepidation, a house concert tour across America, playing in people’s living rooms, churches, temples, schools, and hospitals in a humble grassroots effort to create a better understanding of his culture in the West.  He has played before thousands in the Middle East, Europe, and the US as well as for Queen Elizabeth, Queen Rania, Nelson Mandela, and Jordan’s King Abdullah.  His mission and music which blends Eastern Arabic scales with Western contemporary influences, caught the eye of People Magazine, and both of his albums jumped on the Billboard New Age Top 10 Chart.
After a year of attempts to obtain sponsorship for a large scale version of his house tours, which combined music and discussion, “The Roads to You: Celebration of One World” will be presented in partnership with Berklee College of Music, Seeds of Peace, and the Barakat Foundation. The tour will also feature compositions by Zade including cuts from his new CD, “Beautiful World.” More than just a concert tour, the musicians who were chosen for more than just their musical ability will share their talent and heritage with fellow tour members. They will also participate, along with their host families and friends, in more than 100 cultural presentations at educational institutions and community/civic functions. They will also participate in presentations with their own families upon their return home. Proceeds will support local charities and causes.
“This is to be more than just a can’t we all just get along, touchy-feely ‘Kumbaya’ event,” Zade told the Boston Herald during rehearsals in January. “We’re trying to avoid clichés. We want to create something truly sincere, something that will get our message across and get people talking to each other.”
An alumnus of The Berklee College of Music and the National Music Conservatory in Amman, Zade has received The Jordanian Ministry of Education Award for the Arts and The Arab-American Music, Art, and Literature (AMAL) Award.
Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan is the tour Patron.  All proceeds from The Roads to You: Celebration of One World will support charities and causes as advised by community partners. Other organizations lending a  hand locally are The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), Boniak Center at Rice University, Our Voices Together and Peace X Peace.
