Thank Senator Hagel for His Call for a Cease Fire and an End to the Madness On July 31, in a speech before the United States Senate, Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel (R) asked President Bush to call for an immediate cease-fire in the current escalation of violence in Lebanon and to publicly decry the slaughter of civilians. Senator Hagel went on to say, “this madness must stop!”
In his floor statement before the Senate he said that, “the systematic destruction of an American ally, Lebanon, was going to further harm the United State’s image in the Middle East.” Hagel further commented that America’s relationship with Israel “need not and cannot be at the expense of our Arab and Muslim relationships.”
ADC President, and former Member of Congress, Mary Rose Oakar said, “the nation’s largest Arab-American grassroots organization thanks Senator Hagel for his comments and his call for a realistic and just US foreign policy in the Middle East that is in line with America’s security and national interests. America can not disregard our responsibility as one of our allies in the Middle East is annihilated.”
