Dear friends,
Right now, more people than ever are eager to support a unified action calling for an end to U.S. military aid to Israel.
As Israel’s brutal assault on the people of Gaza enters its seventh week, at least 2,122 Palestinian men, women and children have been killed (roughly 77% of them civilians), with at least 140 families losing three or more family members in the same incident. Over 100,000 people have had their homes destroyed or severely damaged as a result of Israeli bombing, and 460,000 people are currently displaced. 216 schools and 58 hospitals have been attacked.
Over $3 billion of our tax dollars every year funds this destruction, and we must hold our elected officials accountable. Please join the national campaign to Stop the Blank Check to Israel! Sign a “blank check” online pledging one vote to the candidate who finally ends our blank check to Israel, ask your email lists and contacts to do the same, or collect signatures on paper “checks” on your campuses and in your communities.
After we’ve collected a certain number of signatures in each area, we will work with people around the country to arrange meetings with elected representatives and candidates who are running for office this fall (elections will be held for all 435 Congressional seats this year, as will 36 out of 100 Senate seats). At these meetings, we’ll bring bags full of printed signed checks to show how many constituents oppose our blank check to Israel.
We need to let candidates know that we will not continue allowing our money to fund Israeli aggression!
In 2007, the Bush Administration agreed to give Israel a 10-year, $30 billion military aid package for fiscal year 2009 to fiscal year 2018. We must do everything we can to prevent another agreement like this from being passed by the time 2017 rolls around.
We know that many of you are working on a great many projects. We don’t suggest that you stop any of these – we only urge that among your activities, you distribute these checks at every event, talk, and rally, and send the link to CheckIsrael.org to your lists and followers on social media.
If all the individuals and all the different groups who care about Palestine take this simple but powerful and united action, we can demonstrate how many hundreds of thousands of us oppose US tax money to Israel – and as more of our billboards go up around the nation – thousands more will join us.
By working together, we can end the U.S. financial and governmental support that empowers Israeli actions.
