A resolution (H.Res. 234) condemning bigotry and violence against Arab Americans, Muslim Americans, South-Asian Americans, and Sikh Americans was introduced in the House of Representatives on May 14 by Representatives Issa (R-California), Kaptur (D-Ohio), LaHood (R-Illinois), Conyers (D-Michigan), Dingell (D-Michigan), Rahall (D-West Virginia) and Honda (D-California).
This bipartisan resolution: (1) recognizes that Arab Americans, Muslim Americans, Sikh Americans, and South Asian Americans greatly contribute to American society and serve honorably in the military and law enforcement; (2) urges respect for civil rights and civil liberties; (3) condemns bias-motivated crimes against members of these communities; and, (4) calls upon federal and local law enforcement to prosecute such crimes vigorously.
ADC commends these members of Congress for their leadership role in raising public awareness about this issue in an effort to end hate crimes against Americans.
The Senate passed a similar resolution (S.Res. 133) on May 22.
