Rana Abbas Appointed to Michigan State Women’s Commission

ADC congratulates Michigan Deputy Director Rana Abbas on her recent appointment by Governor Jennifer M. Granholm to the State of Michigan Women‘s Commission. The Governor‘s Office announced today the appointments and reappointments of women from across the State. Ms. Abbas will be serving on the Commission as a representative of both ADC and AWARE (Arab American Women Advocating for Resources and Empowerment). “We are confident that Rana will serve as a fine ambassador on behalf of issues related to Arab American women,” states ADC Regional Director Imad Hamad. “We also extend our congratulations to the eight other appointees to this Commission.”
The Michigan Women‘s Commission, which is chaired by Ms. Emma Bell, is housed within the Michigan Department of Civil Rights and focuses on improving the quality of life for women in the state by studying and reviewing the status of Michigan women; directing attention to critical issues that women face; recommending methods to overcome discrimination; promoting methods for women to develop their skills; conducting surveys and establishing advisory committees on vital issues; and recognizing the accomplishments of women in Michigan.
