ADC_Conv_'15-162

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) invites you to join us for our 36th Annual National Convention!

When: Thursday, September 29 – Sunday, October 2, 2016

Where: Washington Marriott Wardman Park, Washington, D.C.

In anticipation of the General Election in November, we will meet with a variety of policymakers, analysts and experts to discuss the role of Arab Americans in deciding the next President of the United States. We will also discuss the major policies promoted by the candidates, and their potential impacts on the Arab-American community.

As part of the democratic theme, we are inviting members to submit proposals for convention panel sessions and workshops. Proposals that focus on the election theme are particularly welcome; however, we will consider proposals on any topic that affects civil rights and the Arab-American community.

Panel discussion (90 min):  Proposals for panel discussions should include a topic, brief description, and a list of potential panelists and their qualifications.  Past examples of ADC Panels include, “The Crossroads of Ferguson to Palestine” (2015), “Dose of Reality: The Surveillance State Revealed” (2015), and “50 Years after the Civil Rights Act: Challenges and Opportunities” (2014).

Workshop (90 min): Workshops allow for a deeper focus on a specific issue or field. Workshops might be professional development focused or subfield specific. Proposals for workshops should clearly articulate the learning objectives that the proposed workshop seeks to teach participants, as well as how the workshop will benefit the Arab-American community and ADC’s mission. Past examples of ADC Convention workshops include, “Youth Organizing Session: The Future of the Civil Rights Movement” (2015), “Activism in the Arts: How to Create Change through Artistic Expression” (2014), “Activism on College Campuses:  Best Practices for Campus Activism” (2014).

Please send proposals via email to adc@adc.org.
