Breaking: U of M-Dearborn cancels event featuring hate-film after concerns raised by ADC
Dearborn, MI | www.adcmichigan.org | March 27, 2014 – The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) Michigan is pleased to share its news on the success in its fight against bigotry and hatred. A movie promoting anti-Arab and Anti-Muslim sentiment that was scheduled to be shown at the University of Michigan-Dearborn today will not be shown as scheduled because of the efforts of ADC. ADC Michigan commends the students at the University of Michigan-Dearborn who took a stand against hate and bigotry, by voicing their concerns directly to the administraion.
Fatina Abdrabboh, Director of ADC Michigan, contacted the University of Michigan-Dearborn President and discussed ADC’s unequivocal position on combating all forms of bigotry and expressed concern about the incendiary and hate-filled content of the movie. Further, Attorney Abdrabboh refused to honor a request to be a panelist at the film’s showing. Abdrabboh said, “We at ADC shared our view that the film is produced by hate mongers who do nothing but perpetuate stereotypes, bigotry and hate towards the Arab and Muslim American communities.”

Although ADC Michigan exalts the values of free expression, it understands the need to safeguard the sacred principles of diversity, inclusion, and societal integrity. ADC Michigan will continue to advocate for promoting dialogue and ensuring the rights of the Arab-American community are protected and its voice heard.
