ADC Urges Community to Take Immediate Action on Pipes Nomination

Contact the White House and Senators.

On July 23, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee postponed the scheduled vote on the nomination of Daniel Pipes to the US Institute of Peace. Pipes has a long track record of bashing ethnic and religious groups, and spreading fear and hatred. He has also been among the most strident opponents of peace in the Middle East, has advocated war and violence, and thus should not be appointed to the US Institute for Peace in any capacity whatsoever.

As Congress will recess soon, most members will return to their home state for the summer recess. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) urges you to take this opportunity to schedule an appointment to meet with your Senator (particularly those listed below) to ask them to reject Pipes nomination. If you are unable to meet with your Senator, do call to diplomatically express your views about Pipes.
Moreover, ADC urges you to call the White House (Whitehouse switchboard 202-456-1414) and ask that President Bush withdraw Pipes‘ nomination. ADC, along with a coalition of other American groups, has written a letter to Senate Committee asking them to withdraw the nomination of Pipes. To read the letter, click here Letter
The following Senators have indicated that they potentially support the nomination of Daniel Pipes so it is up to us to contact them and apprise them of Pipes‘ long history of religious intolerance, opposition to diplomatic solutions to conflict, and racism. Please also contact Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) who is the Chair of this committee.
