ADC Statement on Conditioning U.S. Aid to Israel

Washington D.C. | www.adc.org | November 30, 2023 – The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) commends Senator Chris Van Hollen and others in Congress for their efforts to hold Israel accountable by seeking to enforce conditions on U.S. aid to Israel. This approach is a moral imperative.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with an estimated 15,000 people, including 5,000 children, dead, and 7,000 unaccounted for, underscores the urgent need for a policy change. This tragedy is a direct result of policies supported by unconditional U.S. aid. We urge the U.S. Congress to act to ensure that U.S. aid does not contribute to further loss of life.

“While we prefer a complete cessation of aid to Israel, we recognize the current political landscape,” states Abed Ayoub, Executive Director of the ADC. “If aid continues, it must be strictly conditioned to prevent further human rights violations and to ensure Israel’s complying with international human rights standards.”

The ADC implores U.S. representatives and policymakers to align foreign aid with human rights and justice, advocating for a foreign policy that prioritizes human dignity and peace.
