Washington, DC | www.adc.org | May 20, 2015 – The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is proud to announce that it will present the “Excellence in Public Service Award” to the Honorable Nick Rahall.
ADC will present the award at the annual Dinner Gala on Saturday, June 13, 2015, as part of the 35th Anniversary ADC National Convention: Celebrating 35 Years of Commitment to Civil Rights.
The Honorable Nick Rahall:
For 38 years, Arab-American Congressman Nick Rahall represented southern West Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives. Having the distinction as the longest serving member on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and as its ranking member, Rahall became a national leader in transportation; and since 1977, helped lead every Federal highway debate. As Chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources, he consistently fought for a balanced use of the Nation’s natural resources and worked to expand jobs in his State while safeguarding its pristine natural wonders.
Rahall’s grandfathers emigrated from Lebanon to the Mountain State, peddling linens through coal camps. Furthering the U.S.’s best interests, Rahall travels extensively throughout the Middle East, urging peaceful solutions, protecting innocent lives and recognition of all human rights. Rahall has received the Phillip C. Habib Distinguished Service Award and the Najeeb Halaby Public Service Award presented by Jordan’s Queen Noor.
Elected at age 27, Rahall remains the youngest elected, longest serving member in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives.
