Washington, D.C. | October 27, 2023 – The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is monitoring and fighting back against the increasing tide of anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab attacks in the U.S. Today, we proudly sign onto the crucial letter spearheaded by Palestine Legal that voices our collective action in response to these alarming events.
Misinformation campaigns, underpinned by Islamophobic and racist undertones, are leading to a surge in discriminatory actions and retaliation against individuals advocating for the rights of Palestinians. The constant dehumanization of Palestinians by Israel and the U.S. has created an unsafe environment for Palestinians and their allies.
The Biden Administration’s open endorsement of Israel’s aggression, without condemning the profound human rights violations and tragedies unfolding in Gaza, paves the way for increased bigotry against Palestinians and those advocating for their rights.
ADC, alongside Palestine Legal, the Center for Constitutional Rights, and other supporting organizations, is experiencing a surge in requests for assistance from those facing racist attacks and government targeting.
The continued criminalization of advocacy for Palestinian rights is a grave violation of our core democratic principles. The broader implications on fundamental constitutional rights, including the right to protest and dissent, cannot be ignored.
As a legal organization, ADC recognizes the paramount importance of upholding the principles of justice, equality, and human rights. We join our voices with hundreds in the legal community in urging all government and elected officials, as well as institutional decision-makers, to prioritize the protection of these principles and halt the perpetuation of discriminatory practices and rhetoric.
