ADC is Proud to Present the Alex Odeh Memorial Award to Dr. Jamil and Kamelah Shami
Washington, D.C. | www.adc.org | June 1, 2015 – The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is proud to announce that it will present the annual Alex Odeh Memorial Award to Dr. Jamil and Kamelah Shami at ADC’s 35th Anniversary National Convention in Washington, DC.
The Alex Odeh Memorial Award is presented annually to individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, public service, and commitment to ADC and the Arab American Community.
ADC will present the award to Dr. Jamil and Kamelah Shami at ADC Dinner Gala on the evening of Saturday, June 13th, 2015.
ADC invites you to register for the ADC Convention and join us in honoring Dr. Jamil and Kamelah Shami and other community leaders on June 11-14th in Washington, DC.
About the Awardees:
Dr. Jamil and Kamelah Shami were born in Palestine at a time when Muslims, Christians and Jews lived together. She was born in Jaffa and raised in Jerusalem and he was born in Beit Our al Tahta near Ramallah. They began their journey and partnership together more than 45 years ago.
They knew Alex Odeh and his family socially and professionally, and worked together on issues of peace, dialogue and international understanding. Jamil and Kamelah Shami joined ADC at its inception and helped organize the Houston, Texas Chapter that same year.
