ADC Endorses Freedom of Religion Act

Samer Khalaf at Freedom of Religion Act Press Conference

Washington, DC | www.adc.org |May 11 2016 – The American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) endorses the Freedom of Religion Act (FOR). This legislation is a strong statement that Congress will stand up for religious freedom, and will not give in to Donald Trump’s xenophobic and anti-Muslim rhetoric.

The FOR Act would prohibit the use of religious litmus tests as a means to ban immigrants, refugees, and international visitors trying to enter the United States. The Constitution already protects American from discrimination on the basis of their religious beliefs, but the FOR Act goes a step further by expressly applying constitutional protections to immigrants.

ADC President Samer Khalaf attended the bill’s introductory press conference today to show ADC’s support for the bill. ADC applauds the House delegation for introducing the bill, including Congressman Don Beyer (VA), Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC), Keith Ellison (MN), Joe Crowley (NY), Jan Schakowsky (IL), Mike Honda (CA), Betty McCollum (MN), André Carson (ID).
