Washington, DC — Today the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) discussed with officials at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC, the Arab-American and Muslim communities‘ concerns with alleged monitoring of radiation levels of Muslim sites. According to media reports, the monitoring allegedly took place under a joint FBI – Department of Energy program intended to determine potential threats from a nuclear device.
During the discussion, ADC reiterated concerns about the potential damage such action may cause to the relationship between the Arab-American and Muslim communities, and the Federal Government. ADC emphasized that even the perception of profiling based on national origin, ethnicity, or religion will go a long way in damaging the government’s image with the community.
A follow-up discussion between FBI leadership and concerned community groups will be scheduled in the future to further address this matter.
