ADC and Community Members Gather to Honor Victims Murdered in Gaza

Washington, DC | www.adc.org | July 31st, 2014 – The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) sponsored a candlelight vigil at the White House last night among nearly 500 community members to honor and mourn the innocent lives taken by Israel’s indiscriminate attacks on Gaza.

ADC was joined in the vigil by Arab American Institute (AAI), Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), American Federation of Ramallah Palestine, Bethlehem Association, Coalition of Palestinian American Organizations, and Network of Arab-American Professionals-DC (NAAP-DC). Several other social justice groups such as Code Pink and the Answer Coalition also participated in the vigil. The night was tweeted using the hashtag #LetChildrenLive.

As participants gathered holding candles, ADC staff, members, colleagues and volunteers read the list of names of the people who were killed in Gaza since Israel’s current massacre began on July 8th, 2014. Due to the large number of victims, many of the candles burned out before participants were able to finish reading all of the names.

As of this morning, over 1,300 Palestinians have been killed, with thousands more wounded or unjustly arrested by Israeli Occupation Forces. In a report, the United Nations estimates that 80% of those killed were civilians, women and children.

It is a sad day when Americans must gather to mourn the relentless massacre of innocent people, when those unnecessary and senseless deaths could have been prevented.

More deaths under Israel’s ongoing rampage can still be prevented. Take Action: Click here to tell Congress and the White House to demand an end to Israel’s siege on Gaza and stop sending Israel our taxpayer dollars!
