The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day 2019. On behalf of the ADC Women’s Empowerment Forum, we honor all women and wish the international community, all the best, for the occasion of International Women’s Day.
ADC celebrates the many strides that have been taken inside our community and beyond for greater social, economic, and political empowerment of women. Yet, today we must remember that much more remains to be done to ensure that women’s rights are achieved and protected. The theme adopted for International Women’s Day 2019 by a wide array of international women’s organizations is “Balance for Better Gender Equality.”
Over the last few years, ADC has witnessed a rise in awareness, even if through the often painful revelations of innumerable instances of women’s oppression. We witness this in every realm of human activity and yet we are convinced that with continued perseverance, coalition building, and mobilization we will witness further progress to fully protecting women’s rights and equality.
There is much more work to be done for true gender equality. Accessible education is a key tool for the advancement of women’s rights. Education is a fundamental right that belongs to all women of all ages, irrespective of background. ADC stresses the importance of education to empower ethics of consciousness about the importance of gender equality and the responsibilities that we all have to protect women’s rights.
Together, let’s continue to work to empower young women to be future leaders and decision makers. Equally, we celebrate the women that have blazed the trail ahead for women’s rights. ADC is committed to defending the rights of all women and will continue to do so until justice and equality is achieved.
