ADC, Arab Identity on Display at Coachella

Coachella, CA | adc.org | April 19, 2024 – The American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is currently in the Coachella Valley attending the Annual Mobius Conference, promoting our rich culture and heritage.  The two-day conference is hosted in the Coachella Valley to engage, connect, and share evolving topics in art, culture, and politics. ADC has participated and attended annually to foster understanding and preservation of Arab culture and identity in the Valley.

Recognizing the weight of the moment, Ms. Jasmine Hawamdeh is representing ADC, speaking about the importance of cultural heritage and preservation especially in the face of relentless erasure and appropriation. Ms. Hawamdeh will also reflect on the work ADC initiated with the Coachella Valley High School (CVHS) and the local community in 2014. ADC has a long and positive history with the CVHS and local community, working together to dismantle racial stereotypes and strengthen the relationship between our diverse communities. Our continued presence in Coachella is a testament to our ongoing commitment to promoting the rich culture of Arabs, strengthening relationships, and combating the erasure of Arab identity, something particularly important during times of crisis.

While in Coachella, Ms. Hawamdeh will welcome artist Saint Levant’s groundbreaking performance at the Coachella Music Festival. His historic achievement as the second Arab performer at the festival is a poignant reminder of the resilience and richness of Arab culture. His efforts to amplify our identity to a broader audience are a testament to our collective struggle against marginalization and erasure.
