Executive Assistant / Special Assistant to the National Executive
Location: Washington, D.C.
Job Summary:
The ADC seeks a highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive Executive Assistant / Special Assistant to support our National Executive in Washington, D.C. This vital role is responsible for managing daily operations, supporting strategic initiatives, and ensuring effective communication across the organization and with external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have experience in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and will be deeply committed to ADC’s mission. Familiarity with Arab culture and the issues facing Arab Americans is a plus but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative Support
- Serve as the primary gatekeeper for the National Executive, managing emails to prioritize urgent requests, coordinating high-priority meetings, appointments, and travel logistics, and proactively adjusting his schedule to meet shifting priorities.
- Anticipate the executive’s needs and proactively solve problems by preparing necessary information or resources in advance, addressing potential issues before they arise, and making quick, informed decisions on scheduling, correspondence, and urgent requests.
- Oversee the preparation, review, and organization of correspondence, reports, and presentations to ensure seamless communication and workflow.
- Handle expense reports, reimbursements, and ensure timely and accurate processing to maintain financial organization.
- Maintain an organized filing system for documents and handle confidential information with discretion.
Strategic Project Assistance
- Support the National Executive in strategic planning by preparing background materials, conducting research, and tracking progress on key initiatives.
- Prepare briefs, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders to facilitate clear and effective communication.
- Coordinate and monitor special projects, ensuring timelines are met and tasks are executed efficiently.
- Manage relationships with board members, donors, and high-profile partners by maintaining regular communication and coordinating meetings.
Communication and Stakeholder Management
- Support the National Executive in strategic planning by preparing background materials, conducting research, and tracking progress on key initiatives.
- Prepare briefs, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders to facilitate clear and effective communication.
- Coordinate and monitor special projects, ensuring timelines are met and tasks are executed efficiently.
- Act as a liaison to board members, donors, and high-profile partners by facilitating regular communication and coordinating meetings on behalf of the National Executive.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an Executive Assistant, Special Assistant, or similar role supporting senior leadership, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with project management and communication tools (e.g., Asana, Slack).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and work with a high degree of professionalism.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a high level of emotional intelligence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in nonprofit or public sector organizations, particularly in an advocacy-focused or member-driven environment.

Legal Intern – Anthony Shadid Internship Program
Location: Washington, D.C. (In-person with hybrid options available)
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is committed to protecting and advocating for the rights of the Arab American community. Now, more than ever, our work is crucial as we confront the pressing challenges of rising hate and discrimination that demand a robust legal response to protect the rights and dignity of Arab Americans.
ADC is seeking passionate and dedicated Summer Legal Interns to support our Legal Department in its civil rights and advocacy work. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in civil rights law and public interest advocacy that directly impact Arab American communities.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda on issues related to civil rights, immigration, discrimination, and policy matters.
- Assist in reviewing and conducting client intakes, including initial fact-gathering and follow-ups.
- Support amicus brief writing and legal filings on cases affecting civil rights and social justice issues.
- Draft legal correspondence, assist in preparing legal documents, and contribute to ongoing litigation support.
- Work with ADC staff to develop strategies for strengthening the organization’s legal advocacy and community outreach efforts.
- Support public education initiatives, including Know Your Rights workshops and community engagement events.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current law student (1L, 2L, or 3L) at an accredited law school.
- Strong interest in civil rights, social justice, and public interest law.
- Excellent legal research and writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of or willingness to learn about issues impacting the Arab American community.
- Commitment to ADC’s mission of protecting civil rights and promoting equality.
Internship Details:
- This is a paid internship unless you receive academic credit or funding from your law school.
- The internship is in-person in Washington, D.C.
- Interns are expected to commit at least 10-12 weeks during the summer, with flexible start and end dates.

Government and Community Affairs Intern – Anthony Shadid Internship Program
Location: Washington, D.C. (In-person with hybrid options available)
Duration: May 2025 – August 2025
Hours: 20 – 25 hours per week
The Government and Community Affairs department at the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) oversees the organization’s goal in broadening and supporting state chapters across the country, implementing robust outreach efforts with various Arab American communities and allies, and continuous collaboration with the Legal and Communications departments at ADC. Currently, there are over X state chapters in states such as Michigan, California, Indiana, and Virginia with hopes to expand.
Job Summary:
The Government and Community Affairs Intern will assist the Government and Community Affairs Manager with:
- Shadowing coalition calls with internal and external stakeholders.
- Identifying hearings of interest; writing follow-up memos for national staff to overview.
- Maintain and update the state legislative tracker and report on bills pertaining to Arab Americans.
- Aid with literature reviews for position papers on civil rights, immigration issues, and public health.
- Identify areas of interest pertaining to issues affecting the Arab American community.
- Attend meetings both in person and virtual alongside the Government and Community Affairs Manager.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Graduate degree student and/or recent graduate.
- Above a 3.0 GPA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suites.
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent writing abilities, and a collaborative attitude.

Communications Internship – Anthony Shadid Internship Program

Job Summary:
ADC is seeking a Communications Intern who is organized, proactive, and a strong writer. The intern will support the Communications Department in tracking news, drafting content, and assisting in messaging efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates interested in civil rights, media, and public relations.
Key Responsibilities:
- News Monitoring & Distribution: Track and compile daily news clips relevant to ADC’s mission and flag key stories for potential action.
- Press Releases & Statements: Assist in drafting press releases and official statements responding to current events, policy changes, and legal matters.
- Newsletter Development: Help draft ADC’s newsletter, ensuring timely and engaging communication with members.
- Talking Points & Messaging: Assist in creating talking points for ADC’s leadership, staff, and spokespeople for media appearances and advocacy efforts.
- Content Creation: Support content development for digital platforms, including website updates and social media.
Qualifications:
- Strong writing, editing, and research skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Interest in media, public relations, civil rights, and advocacy.
- Familiarity with news monitoring tools and social media is a plus.
