6 (Sitta) Reasons Why You Need to Register for the 2017 ADC National Convention

Washington, DC | www.adc.org | September 15, 2017 – There is no better place and time to get involved and truly make a difference than at the 37th annual ADC National Convention hosted at the Marriot Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. on September 21st-24th. Here are Six, or as we Arabs say, Sitta, reasons why Arab-Americans need to register for the Convention.
1. One of the Largest Gathering of Arab-Americans in the Nation’s Capital
The three-days of new and rekindled friendships are an unparalleled opportunity to strengthen our community bonds, celebrate our heritage and culture, and discuss issues impacting our community.
2. Prominent Experts & Speakers
Every ADC Convention features many of the leading experts in civil rights and politics presenting invaluable lessons and advice on how to advance the interests of our community.  Some of the speakers at this year’s Convention will be Vincent Warren, Executive Director of the Center for Constitutional Rights; Noura Eraket, Palestinian American legal scholar and human rights attorney; Dr. Ahmad Tibi, Deputy Speaker of the Knesset; Dena Takruri, Senior Presenter at AJ+; Jamil Dakwar, Director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s Human Rights Program; and Khaled Beydoun, Associate Professor of Law at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.
3. A Unique Opportunity to Network
The ADC convention is a special chance to interact with fellow ADC members and meet Arab-Americans from all over the U.S. who are pioneers in business, politics, law, humanitarian and social justice work, journalism, and academia and much more.
4. Brunch, Luncheons, and Galas & Souk!
Breaking bread is part of the Arab spirit, and we at ADC honor that tradition with several catered multi-course meals throughout the Convention. Join us for several luncheons, brunches and our extraordinary Saturday Night Gala. We’ll also be hosted by the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center for an Evening Reception. And head over to our Souk where you’ll find local and national Arab craft makers, photographers, and book sellers.
5. Art Exhibition
ADC is honored that our Art Exhibition will feature Iraqi painter Shakir Al Alousi. The opening reception will be on Friday, September 22, 2017 and will feature a poetry reading. The exhibition will be on display throughout the Convention from September 21-24, 2017. Al Alousi’s artwork is rooted in the folk culture of Iraqi art, and his unique method has been reimagining folk culture in modern impressionist drawings that evoke the Arab homeland. Al Alousi is one of the most preeminent artists to emerge from the Impressionist Baghdadi School of Art.
6. Visit Washington D.C.
ADC’s Convention will be at the luxurious Washington Marriott Wardman Park in the charming and leafy Woodley Park neighborhood home to excellent restaurants and shops, and the National Zoo, walking distance from your room. The hotel is situated by a Metro station connecting you to every corner of D.C. and Washington National Airport (DCA). As the autumn leaves brighten up the city, September is one of the best times to visit D.C. Head over to the National Mall to see the iconic Lincoln Memorial, tour the halls of Congress, and visit the newly inaugurated African American Museum.
